About Hilary

Hilary Crystal works from her home in Holyhead, North Wales, with her husband David. She practised for several years as a speech therapist, working mainly with children with special needs, and spent a year as a research assistant on a Medical Research Council project at Reading University. From the mid-1980s until 2006 she was a quality-control editor for the Cambridge and Penguin families of encyclopedias. She has co-authored three books with her husband: Wordsmiths and Warriors: the English-language Tourist's Guide to Britain, Words on Words (available on this site) and John Bradburne’s Mtemwa, and has designed several poetry anthologies for Holy Island Press and the John Bradburne Memorial Society. Her first techno-fantasy novel for children, The Memors, was published in 2013, and signed copies are available through this site (see below). Likewise for her second book, The Mirrinth, published in 2017. In 2020 she contributed two books to the project 'D-Mind and the Prince', published in Hong Kong: Clever Alice and My First Digital ABC Book.
